Xinjiang Tours FAQs

“Great Customized Service”, “Trip of A Lifetime”, “Exceed All Expectations”

1.Do I Need a Special Visa or Permit for Xinjiang?

Foreign travelers do not need a special visa to visit Xinjiang, but a standard Chinese visa is required. However, for certain areas within Xinjiang, a travel permit may be necessary. This is known as the Xinjiang Travel Permit or Xinjiang Border Pass, which is designed to ensure the safety and security of both travelers and local residents. It is separate from the Chinese visa and is specifically issued for travel within Xinjiang, particularly for restricted areas near the borders.

The duration of your visit to Xinjiang can depend on the depth of exploration you desire. A comprehensive tour covering the main attractions like Urumqi, Turpan, and Kashgar can be done in about 10 days. However, if you wish to delve deeper into the region’s culture and natural wonders, a longer stay of at least two weeks or more would be ideal to fully appreciate the vastness and diversity of Xinjiang.

The best time to visit Xinjiang is from May to October, when the weather is generally mild to hot, and the region showcases its stunning natural beauty. During these months, you can enjoy blooming flowers, lush grasslands, and ripe fruits.

Both Northern and Southern Xinjiang offer unique experiences and are worth visiting. Northern Xinjiang is known for its vast grasslands, high mountains, and beautiful natural scenery, while Southern Xinjiang features deserts, barren rocky landforms, and a rich cultural charm in cities like Kashgar. If you have the time, visiting both parts of Xinjiang will give you a comprehensive experience of the region’s diversity.

In Xinjiang, it’s important to dress modestly and be prepared for varying weather conditions. Summers can be hot, while evenings can be cool, and winters are cold with snow. Long sleeves and pants are recommended to protect from the sun and cold. During the winter, warm clothing such as down jackets, woolen sweaters, and thermal underwear are necessary. When visiting religious sites, it’s respectful to dress conservatively, with women covering their arms and legs.
